We co-develop improvements with client organisations using a combination of their local knowledge and our examples of tried and tested processes. In our experience, simply demanding improvements doesn’t cut it. Organisations first of all need to accept that change is required, then buy-into a way of making it happen. This involves a healthy dose of challenge but also a demonstration that individuals can make a change by doing things differently.

Our Approach

Our Four Phased approach to deliver value and behavioural change.

We believe that all organisations have the inherent capability to improve and that forward looking companies are always striving to get better. The challenge is not the desire to make it happen but the ability to mobilise the business around a common purpose.

Over the last 25 years we have developed a tried and tested approach which achieves exactly that.

The first two phases of our approach engage employees and ensure that there is a belief that improvements are both required and achievable.

The third phase focuses on the challenge of making it happen. The fourth phase ensures sustainability of improvements by ensuring that they are fully embedded into the ‘DNA’ of a company so that the changes become the new way of working.

At all stages of OCP support during an improvement programme, our clients are in control. We agree objectives and deliverables upfront together with key milestones and install decision gates which ensure that demonstrable value is constantly delivered.

Scoping

Developing an improvement hypothesis.

The short, highly focused scoping phase enables OCP and the business stakeholders to design a bespoke approach for the Performance Diagnostic Phase. It leverages the knowledge and understanding of the industry and its dynamics from both an OCP and key client staff perspective. This builds a set of hypotheses on current pressure points facing the organisation together with a view of the potential opportunity areas which will be fully explored and tested.

Performance Diagnostic

Assessing performance gaps and developing a business case for change.

The Performance Diagnostic gets down into the detail. Many companies have a good idea of where the problems are but struggle to find sufficient time to look deep enough to understand the true “as-is” performance and the root-cause of the issues. We use a combination of process and organisational benchmarks, observational studies and performance analytics to unearth the true reasons for sub-optimal performance.

We then use our experience to evaluate the improvement potential in terms of operational performance, organisational effectiveness and financial impact. Finally, we work alongside clients to co-design a road-map which will highlight the critical activities, milestones and structures required to deliver the improvement goals.

Implementation

Implementing enhanced ways of working and realised improvements.

Phase three looks to develop an implementation framework which carefully manages the resources and activity required to deliver the improvements. This often over looked area, is fundamental and needs to be carefully sequenced and supported to ensure that design improvements are harnessed by the organisation. This phase designs optimised business processes and requires a significant change in both behaviours and working practices. Managing the various stakeholder groups is key together with an approach that ensures strong governance and tracking of progress and the realisation of improvements. All of this is under-pinned with a highly cost effective business case and attractive return on investment.

Sustainability

Performance Management, benefit delivery and sustainable ways of working.

The final phase focuses on ensuring sustainability of improvements through the highly visible measures necessary to track enhancements and the behavioural characteristics which demonstrate absorption into new ways of working and the ability to drive continuous improvement.
